If you are in the bridal gown businesses, you see all kinds of wedding gowns. You often see brides asking themselves if they should buy a brand new wedding gown or purchase one that has already been used. If they are going the “used” route, they should look at four different things to determine if it’s worth anything. These four things include: the age of the dress, its condition, who designed it and what was its original price.

As a retailer, you already know that the more popular the dress is and the more well known the designer is, the more money you can make on it. Age and condition also apply to this rule.

What are some guidelines to follow if you are selling used wedding dresses?

First, any new gowns that have tags should be priced about 25 percent near the original price. New gowns are the ones that were purchased but never actually worn. Some dresses may never have been tried on by someone either.

Second, gowns that are new but have no price tags should be sold around 30 to 50 percent off the original price.

Third, if you have sample gowns, you can sell them for about 100 percent of the price. Of course, this means that there were no alterations made and it’s still a sample piece.

Fourth, if you have used gowns you are trying to sell, mark them about 50 percent off the original price. However, if the dress style is popular, 40 percent is still good.

You should also keep three other guidelines in mind.

First, be mindful of the wedding gown’s age. The above guidelines are for wedding gowns that are less than three years old. If your gown happens to be older than this, make sure you price it accordingly.

Second, discontinued dresses should be marked correctly in price.

Third, dresses that have stains, tears or any other defect should have a price deduction so the imperfection has been duly noted.

Fourth, if there are alterations on the gown, this can increase the value of it. Be sure you place that in the pricing.

If you need help in pricing your wedding gowns, look to other bridal shops or look at auction sites that offer used dresses to get an idea on how to mark your prices.

When you are a bride in need a gown for a wedding, you know that there are tons of them to choose from in many different sizes. The catch? This is only if you are not overweight or weigh more than the average wedding dress size. Many overweight women have a hard time finding clothes to fit them; let alone the dress they need for their “big” wedding day. However, there are some bridal shops that cater to the plus size crowd. The only thing you must do is to look.

Many gowns in typical wedding shops are for women, sizes 14 to 16. If you are shopping for a wedding dress, you should always make an appointment with the business so they can help you narrow down the dress of your choice. You certainly do not want to go in the bridal shop at the last minute trying to find a dress that will fit you and not find anything at all. This leaves you with little options.

Keep in mind that most women do not fit the 14 to 16 sizes. So if this is you, you still have options you can turn to to find a wedding dress that fits you and find one that you like. When you start looking at weddings shops that have plus size clothing, you are likely to find that they do have garments for those sizes and above. However, you are often limited in choices in style and color but the right gown can be found if you shop at special wedding gown stores. The only thing you have to do is look for them.

If you aren’t finding your gown in stores you visit or no stores is available in your area, look to the Internet as your next option. There are many, many websites that sell plus size wedding dresses. You can order a gown you like through a website service. However, there is catch. Gowns that you order online cannot be tried on before you purchase them. You won’t know if it will look good on you or if it will fit for that matter. Most plus size wedding gowns are not tailor made. For just this reason alone, overweight brides must be careful when shopping for their gown through the Internet.

Make sure if you decide to purchase a gown online that you seek feedback about the company you are buying your dress from. You want to be sure that any company you order your wedding dress through is reputable. Be sure that there have not been any complaints. You can always check with the Better Business Bureau in your state should you need further information. You will also want to price compare businesses. While you can’t be too choosy, you don’t want to get ripped off either.

If you still need help narrowing down your choices, look to magazines that cater to full-fit women. You can find all sorts of ideas for your “perfect” wedding dress. Make sure you have the measurements you need to order your gown and give these to your tailor. Even with all the measurements, there are still chances your gown will need modifications so make sure this is done as early as possible.

If you are looking for a place to get married, try the Las Vegas area. There are so many places to get a beautiful wedding dress in this bustling city. You have many options if you need a dress. Each gown is different. Dresses come in many different styles, colors, materials, lengths and most certainly prices. If you are engaged and plan to have the wedding the following year, it’s best to order the dress up to six months before the ceremony is to take place. If you don’t, you may be disappointed in the dress you have from the one you have imagined. You should always factor in weather and the ceremony type you plan to have. Las Vegas weddings don’t usually get married in long train wedding gowns. Why? Simple dresses work here.

How To Find and Obtain A Wedding Dress Online

If you are in need of a dress, you can rent or buy one outright through visiting a store or visit a website. With the invention of the Internet, more brides are opting to make their dress purchases online because of the availability of feedback/recommendations that other buyers have written.

You can also make recommendations about the changes you want to make to a particular dress. By doing this, you are assured you get the Las Vegas wedding dress you always wanted.

When you use the Internet to look for dresses, you have a much wider variety of stores you can go to. If you choose to purchase a wedding gown online, make sure your credit card is valid so your transaction can go through. Once payments are through, you can make sure that the company delivers your dress up to a week before your big day.

Choosing the Perfect Wedding Gown

Remember, choose a Las Vegas dress, which will accentuate your features and skin tone/color. Each person is different in body sizes so keep this in mind when you are out looking. What types of body sizes are out there? You have women who are apple-shaped; others that are like hourglasses. Other women that have a slender figure or have a plus size body.

Be sure you narrow down your wedding time and choose your dress accordingly. Weddings held during the day should have a gown that is light in material so they do not get too hot. If the wedding is being held in the evening or nighttime hours, the dress should be a bit heavier in material.

If you don’t have a waistline you can see, choose an A-line gown. These are also known as princess wedding gowns. For those women of the slender build, look at sheath wedding gowns. When you have the hourglass figure, mermaid-wedding gowns will show off those curves of yours. Be sure you ask your family and/or friends for advice when you are out choosing a gown.

Choosing the Right Wedding Gown Color

Choosing the color of your Las Vegas wedding gown solely depends on your taste. However, the most common colors chosen are: cream, taupe, beige and white. Most brides pick a color based on the theme of their wedding. If you have ribbons on your dress, be sure they are not the same color as the dress so they stand out a bit without clashing.

Wedding dresses are bought for one specific day in mind and then hung up in closets for the remainder of the time. Some women purchase a wedding dress for years before their big day and then hang it up after the event is done. When wedding dresses are hung up for so long, they tend to rot and turn yellow. It’s important that a wedding dress is preserved for two reasons:

- First, the condition of the dress is preserved.

- Second, you end up saving space by preserving.

How to do Wedding Dress Preservation

Using the knowledge gained from museum collection and conservation science, the bridal industry is using the information to preserve a woman’s wedding dresses. There are storage techniques that can help with the bride’s needs of preserving her dress. What is the process of wedding dress preservation?

- First, the dress will have to be dry-cleaned.

- Second, it will need to be chemically treated to reduce/eliminate yellowing.

- Third, a thorough stain inspection and cleaning is done.

- Fourth, the dress will need to be pressed, folded and packaged into a sealed container specially designed.

Companies who do wedding dress preservation methods will remove the air from the container the dress will be in. It will be replaced with an inert gas mixture. When the process is complete, the company will hand back the dress in the sealed box. That means the gown can be stored for years to come.

How to preserve a wedding dress depends on the dress fabric itself. Each one will need different cleaning processes. Dresses are folded with the use of special gloves that are able to protect the dress from particles that could damage it. This includes the salt and oil that come from the person’s skin that is doing the folding.

Regular boxes used for storage are not used in the preservation process. These could contain acid that come from the tree even when it comes through the paper processing plant. Instead, special boxes and folding tissues are used.

Plastic containers are often used in the wedding gown preservation process. Any dress part not made of fabric can be hard to preserve. For instance, any metal parts could possibly leave rust stains. Plastic parts could discolor or melt, leaving marks on the dress.

Costs of Preserving a Wedding Gown

If you want a wedding gown preserved, you will have to seek a professional to do this for you. Depending on what you want the company to do for you, you are looking at costs in upwards of $400. One company may provide the containers only. This means the client must take care of the rest of the process. However, other companies will take care of the entire preservation process and guarantee their work for at least 20 years.

Price is also factored by the kind of dress being preserved. If your dress has more parts to it, the price will increase. Make sure you price compare and get feedback about any of the companies.

Remembering Your Day – Forever

Once your dress has been preserved, you know it’s in the same condition as when you wore it. That means if you want to pass your dress down to your children one day, you can do so with little worries about it being worn and/or color faded.

All clothing at one time or another has undergone a change. A wedding dress is no exception.

All clothing at one time or another has undergone a change. A wedding dress is no exception. It has changed both in fashion and in style. Wedding dresses of the medieval period represented the class that the bride was coming from. If a bride were in the high class of families, she would wear a dress that was rich in colors and designed in fabrics that were highly expensive. What kinds of fabrics would make up this dress? Usually fur, silk and velvet. Often times, lower class families and brides would mimic those upper class dresses as much as they could.

Throughout the centuries, brides would often wear dresses that were made of fashionable material that they could afford to purchase. How could a bride’s wealth standing be determined? Her wealth could be determined by how much material she chose to use for her wedding dress. Most lower class brides who could not purchase a new dress would wear their Sunday dress as their wedding dress.

Fashion in the 1920s

Wedding dress fashions during the 1920s consisted of dresses that were short in the front and had a train. A cloche-style wedding veil was also worn.

Fashion in the 1940s and up

Wedding dress trends that were so popular were tossed aside for the Victorian full-skirted design. Many brides looking for a wedding dress will opt for the Victorian skirt in lieu of other wedding dresses/gowns.

White Wedding Dresses

Until Mary Queen of Scots wore a white wedding dress when she got married to Francois II of France, white was not considered a conventional wedding color. In fact, white, at the time, was considered a color for bereavement. When did white become popular as a wedding dress color? In 1840, Queen Victoria married Albert of Saxe-Coberg in a white wedding dress. Victoria had white lace she owned and wanted to use it on her wedding dress. She insisted that her dress be white in color. Once their wedding portrait was printed, brides would wear the color white to honor the Queen.

The tradition to wear white for a wedding dress still continues. However, at one time the color was associated with purity and virginity. What does the white wedding dress symbolize today? It’s nothing more than a dress worn at a wedding.

Indian Wedding Dresses

Colors of an Indian wedding dress vary in the region. Northern India brides will tend to wear a red or green wedding dress. The brides of Southern India often choose white or cream colored dresses. The wedding dresses of this area have changed little throughout the years. There are three common styles of wedding dresses. They include:

- Gaghra choli

- Sari

- Shalwa chameez.

Nearly everyone knows the sari. A sari is a cloth that is wrapped around the body, secured by it being tucked into the waistband or held together with pins. A gaghra is a long skirt with a short top. Brides can use a dupatta, which is worn on the bride’s chest. A dupatta is simply a scarf. A shalwa chameez is just a long tunic that goes over pants. A dupatta can be worn here but it can go on the chest, around the head or neck.

Chinese Wedding Dresses

The luckiest color in the Chinese culture is red. Therefore, brides will wear a red wedding dress. Marriage is such a sacred event that nearly every tradition besides the wedding dress will have the color red on it including red invitations.

Chinese brides will wear three different wedding dresses. The first is a white dress with a veil usually worn at the wedding ceremony. During the banquet, she is to wear a red Chinese wedding dress. Just before their departure, the bride will change into a third wedding dress.

Although there is a ton of work to go into them, weddings are a time for merriment. Brides have so much to contend with but know what style of wedding dress they would like to have on their wedding dress including the color and design. If you want a color other than white or wear a dress that would have been worn in the medieval times, it certainly would cause a stir… a wedding that will be remembered. After all, it is the bride’s day.

Congratulations must be in order if you are about to embark on a new journey of your life… you are getting married. You’ve probably lost a little weight before taking on your wedding dress search. It won’t take you long to find the dress that matches and accentuates your “perfect” day especially if you spend hours upon hours looking for it. When all has been decided, you have chosen to wear an ivory colored dress for your wedding day. Everything is as it should be, right? Not quite.

You see, while you may have your dress, you still have other pressing matters to attend to. Like what? How about what the groom is going to wear that will match your ivory colored wedding dress. Is there even a possibility that what the groom wears will match with your dress? No doubt you’ll be double questioning your choice of color but don’t have the heart to take back your dress.

Believe it or not, brides face this kind of dilemma nearly every day. Do they or don’t they take the dress back? Many people believe that the white of the groom’s clothing (tuxedo) will make the ivory color look dirty or at least a dirty shade of white. Unfortunately, it is true. If the color white is the only color that resembles your ivory colored dress, your dress is likely to look “dirty”.

You can avoid this by making sure the groom wears some kind of ivory colored attire on his tuxedo. However, it’s best for the groom not to wear an ivory colored shirt to go with his black tuxedo. If anything, just have him wear an ivory colored necktie or a bowtie so that it doesn’t stand out but matches your wedding dress.

How else can you make sure that no guests get the impression that your wedding dress is dirty? Have the groomsmen wear matching ivory neckties or bowties to match your dress and your groom’s attire.

Have you guessed by now that the color ivory is tricky to match? By finding ways to make your groom’s attire match yours, you can rest assured that no one will think your “perfect” day was ruined by a dirty dress. The pictures you take will look just as stunning as if you have worn a white dress.

So go ahead…take a look at the ivory colored dress. You no longer have to stick with a white dress for your wedding day.

Your boyfriend popped the big question and you said yes. You finalize a date and now it’s time to get the nitty-gritty down. It can be a daunting task to get everything that needs to be done for the wedding done in time even for brides that are usually organized when it comes to stressful matters. After all, you are getting married. However, you don’t have to go about this alone especially when you are wondering about your wedding dress. Here are nine questions brides typically have regarding their wedding dresses.

First, when should you begin searching for your wedding dress?

Even before the date to your wedding has been set, begin looking for your dress. Wedding gown shopping can take time. You don’t want just any ordinary gown. You will want to find that “perfect” dress. The chances that alterations and other accessories will need to be done are pretty good. Give yourself plenty of time to look and correct your dress before your big day.

Second, where can you turn to if you need some ideas about your wedding dress?

Pick up a bridal magazine at your local supermarket. Your dress choices will depend largely on when the wedding is, the kind of wedding you are planning and the budget you have set for your wedding dress.

Third, do you really need someone to come with your wedding dress shopping?

Absolutely. When you have a friend or relative shopping with you, they can give you their unbiased opinion about the dress you are trying on as well as be there for moral support. Dress shopping with someone can be quite enjoyable.

Fourth, do you have to put a deposit on your dress?

Most stores require a deposit, typically half the cost of the dress. When you find your wedding dress, pay with a credit card. Why? If something is wrong with your purchase, you can seek a reimbursement with your credit card company.

Fifth, why is your wedding dress a bigger size than your waistline?

The sizing chart that wedding dress designers use are different so that they are usually a little bigger than sizes you found in your local retail store. When you are looking for your dress, just find one that fits your frame. Most brides tend to lose weight before the wedding so keep this in mind. It’s easier to take in a dress than to expand it.

Sixth, should you have the accessories you plan to wear with you at the fitting?

Absolutely. Any undergarments such as hoop skirts or slips can affect your dress sizing so be sure you bring them with you. You want your dress to fit you now, as it will on your wedding day.

Seventh, what should you be concerned with in your wedding dress?

Inspect your dress. Look at the seams to be sure they are complete. You don’t want gaps in your dress’ stitching. Buttons should be secured. Other dress accessories such as beads should be on the dress very well, with little chances of falling off as can happen with beads that are glued on.

Eighth, how can you protect yourself should something go wrong with your wedding dress purchase?

Above anything else, pay with a credit card. Many bridal shops have non-refundable policies with the deposit and paying with a credit card allows you some leeway out. Be sure you get you a purchase order that way you can match against the problem you are experiencing.

Ninth, can you still get a great dress even on a low budget?

Believe it or not, you don’t need to spend a lot of money to get a great wedding dress. Many bridal shops will hold dress sales including knocking some prices down to $99. Don’t limit your choices either. You can find a great wedding dress by looking at prom dresses too.
